"It's amazing what ordinary people can do if they set out without preconceived notions."
- Charles F. Kettering

When your expectations are too high or you imagine a situation to be a certain way, it's easy to end up disappointed. Anticipation has a way of building things up in your mind and reality seldom matches the mental images you've formed.

The longer people work, the more they understand the realities of business. People often say things like "It was a business decision" or "It just doesn't make good business sense." Decisions are – or should be – made in the best interest of the business.

Companies exist to make a profit. Sometimes what may seem like a small – even petty – thing may have an indirect link to the bottom line.

Have an open mind. Maintain perspective. And make an effort to understand the realities of business. It's one more way to earn your employer's appreciation and respect.
