Are you being micro-managed?

If you constantly find yourself in situations where you are being given details on how to do obvious tasks and then checked on constantly to see if whether they are done properly, you might be a victim of micromanagement.

Ranked as one of the top motivators for employees in their jobs today is the notion of autonomy and authority - that is, having a say in how they do their work and the ability, power and support to do what is necessary to get the job done. In my research, employees ranked the following items as very or extremely important: "being allowed to decide how best to do one’s work" (89 percent), "being given increased job autonomy" (87 percent), and "being given increased authority in the job" (85 percent).

Organizational structure can be underlying cause of workplace issues

Organizational structure, much like a human skeletal structure, determines what shape an organization will take. We don’t spend much time thinking about our skeletal structure until something breaks, and so it goes with organizations.

How an organization is structured basically means how the reporting relationships and work teams are organized. It reveals a great deal about the culture, function and leadership of a company. When I work with an organization, structure is one of the components I examine, since it can be an underlying cause of problems. Perhaps it is a cause of problems where you work.
