Description
Arthurdale Heritage, Inc. is accepting applications for the
position of Executive Director. Arthurdale Heritage, Inc. is a
501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of
historic Arthurdale, WV. The United States government established
Arthurdale in 1933 and it was the nation's first New Deal Homestead
Community. Created through President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New
Deal legislation, the community provided a new chance at life for
residents of West Virginia who were suffering from the Great
Depression. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt served as the empathetic
force behind the community, which became known as "Eleanor's Little
Village" because of her interest. Today, Arthurdale is a National
Historic District that features 160 of the 165 original homesteads.
The Board of Directors seeks a candidate with the vision and energy
necessary to lead our organization with the goal of expanding
recognition of the Arthurdale "brand" and enhancing the
organization's overall fiscal strength through operational and
fund-raising success. In addition to the role of leadership of
Arthurdale Heritage, this executive is expected to network with all
related organizations within the region and throughout the US while
working toward an overall goal of making Arthurdale a national
historic landmark.Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Location: Arthurdale, West Virginia, 26520, United States
Type: Full time - 40 hours/per week, overtime exempt. Critical office hours are 12-4:00 p.m. Tues-Friday with other hours flexible.
Description: The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and works directly with the Board's Executive Committee. The Executive Director is responsible for the AHI's fundamental areas of activity: Development and Communications; Operations and Administration; Programs and Education.
Primary responsibilities include: Development, Grant Writing, Administration and Finance, Education and Programming, Communication and Evaluation. The ideal candidate carries a commitment to historic preservation and community development at all levels, especially for youth and families; has strong interpersonal skills, energy and enthusiasm; carries a strategic focus to their work and brings strong fiscal management and grant-writing skills.
Additional Qualifications: A Bachelors degree in an appropriate field is required; and advanced degree is preferred. The ideal candidate is currently functioning as the top executive of a comparable nonprofit organization or of a complex nonprofit organization with a mission focused on historic preservation.
Alternative backgrounds could include: a leadership position in private industry or public agencies with a demonstrated commitment to and involvement with nonprofit organizations; a role as the "#2" or other senior leader at a similar/larger organization who is professionally prepared to step up to the Executive Director-level position; or a top or senior leadership position with another kind of nonprofit organization.
