Handling Resume Problems: Too Many Jobs

By Teena Rose

You were laid off, quit for a better job, became downsized, and moved across country. Whatever the multiple reasons are too many jobs within such a short time makes writing a resume difficult. The problem goes beyond the resume, actually. Your staying power at any one position is suspect to prospective employers too. The right action is to determine what jobs can be eliminated, in relation to those that should be kept. You're likely okay eliminating positions that lasted 60 days or less. Be careful, however, to avoid any substantial date gaps. The next action to take is shift from a chronological to a combination resume layout. A combination style allows to added categories to be listed "above the fold" of the new resume, therefore, somewhat overshadowing employment dates.
